LDS Mission Maps

I was talking online with someone about LDS mission boundaries and we got to looking some up but not having great luck. Then, I found this blog post. Taking advantage of Google Maps, BJ and Tianna have created a collaborative map overlay to map out the various LDS Mission boundaries. It's a pretty cool idea.

So all you LDS missionaries...head on over to the map and add or update your mission boundary.

On that page, BJ cites a newly found way to look up mission boundaries on official church web pages, logging in with an account linked to your membership information--so is not public:

A much better way [to find LDS mission boundaries] has appeared, though: http://beta-maps.lds.org. If you have an LDS Account (requires a membership # and confirmation date), you can see a worldwide map of all missions! Sign in, go to "Find Places" on the left, then check the "Missions" box at the bottom. It won't display them until you've zoomed in a couple times, but they're all there!

Oops, I forgot a step. On the "Find Places" page, click "Search Map". Then you'll have the option for the Missions checkbox. [I add, once you locate the address you want to find in which mission it is, it does not show the mission names inside the boundary lines. But if you then click "Open List"--it shows a list of the mission names appearing in the view of the zoom you have on the map--click names, guessing until the same mission boundary highlights that contains the address you seek.]

Awesome! Thanks for the update. I haven't been keeping up on the mission maps. This new system is pretty cool.

Thanks for sharing.
